Christina and Rick envisioned a wedding steeped in the moody romance and still-life beauty of Dutch master paintings.

Set inside San Francisco’s historic Julia Morgan Ballroom, their celebration transformed the grand Beaux-Arts space into something intimate, theatrical, and entirely their own.

Christina wore a custom gown with a sculptural corseted bodice and dramatic gloves, finished with a sweeping cathedral-length veil. For the reception, black velvet and deep red and green tapestry created a rich backdrop for candlelit tables layered with pewter goblets, abundant florals, overflowing fruit and red wine—a Dutch still life brought vividly to life.

The experience extended beyond the design. Tarot and palm readers and a custom potion-making station invited guests into Christina and Rick’s wonderfully unconventional world, creating an evening that felt immersive without ever feeling themed.

For The Poppy Group, the beauty of planning and designing a wedding at Julia Morgan Ballroom is the opportunity to completely reimagine such an iconic San Francisco space. Christina and Rick’s celebration was darkly romantic, deeply personal, and proof that a historic ballroom can become something entirely unexpected.
